Pop Up Books: Moving Life

The “pop-up” books or animated books, using different techniques on paper, have been present since the very beginning of the children’s literature history as an independent genre at the end of the 18th century. They have been considered real “fantasy and memory artefacts” by scholars and, from the beginning, an inexhaustible source of visual and artistic pleasure.

Speaking of them, it is true that if when you were young you had any of these books in your hands at any time it would be impossible to forget it. Nowadays there are thousands of lovers of the “pop-up” books, whose interest and research are mainly concentrated in the Anglo-Saxon World and in Central Europe. In Spain there are still few studies and research on this matter, so this type of book is not well known or only superficially known by the children and youngsters of this country.

We propose that the main purpose of the exhibition be that of awakeing the curiosity  in children, coupled with the enjoyment and fascination that these books most certainly produce, whilst at the same time make people of all ages interested in literature for youngsters enjoy a unique and marvellous art.

To this effect, we have made a lively, singular and high quality exhibition, both in the design and the quality of displayed books, through three variables which are the central point of our exhibition.
