The collection of graphic work of
the Abadía of Montserrat is the mirror of an increasingly rich country in
artists that discovered and adopted new languages and technics. They reflect
the art of the modernity and the avant-garde of the second half of the 20th
century until today. The collection begins with the overcoming of the closed
environment of postwar, when the artists of the exile (Picasso and Miro) began
to enjoy the fame that they already
had achieved abroad. They are followed by a generation that knew a shy opening
and that generated new workshops, editors and galleries of art. In this
context, artists like Ràfols Casamada, Guinovart, Hernández Pijuan, enriched
and broadened their vision with that one of other foreigh artists ,such as
Hartung or Dubuffet. With the arrival of the democracy, the etching widened
their sfera of influence and enriched their language with new technics and
formats.
Going through generations and styles, we found ourselves with a big diversity of works with proper qualities, Duch as the pouchoir of Gontxarova, the works of Geiger and Max Ernst, the portraits of Subirachs, and the figures of Guayasamín and Condé. They highlight the impression in paper collage of Canogar, the landscape of Joan Barbarà that arises of the abstractión and the mix of technics of Forteza, Riera i Aragó and Rosa Vives.
The collection the posters of artists such as Chillida, Frederic Amat and Perejaume are also integrated .
